Most of us care about how we look. We all want to stay looking young for as long as we can. As a consequence more and more of us are having something done. For example, in 2012, there were 1.1 million chemical peel procedures performed. Botox treatments are also very popular. Most Botox patients get their first treatment somewhere between the ages of 40 and 50 years old. As more and more people head to medical spas for a host of treatments, here are some tips to get the most from your Botox experience.
Work your facial muscles after your treatment. The way you do that is to exercise the muscles in your face by squinting, raising your eyebrows, frowning and other things like that. Experts at medical spas say that when you do these kinds of things for the first hour after you receive your Botox injections, it helps get the solution into those muscles and gets it working faster.
Do not rub or put pressure on the area treated. For at least the first first and second day you need to avoid putting any kind of pressure on your treated skin. This includes rubbing the area. The reason that this is recommended is that you want the Botox injection to stay in the exact spots where it was placed. If you rub or put pressure on your face after your treatment, you can risk letting it leak or spread away from the areas it is supposed to treat. If you get massages and your face is placed in a cradle of any kind, you need to avoid that. Most medical spas will give you this as one of their instructions but there are good reasons for this.
Stay upright for at least 90 minutes. Botox does not bind to your muscles immediately so you need to hold your face upright for an hour and a half. This means you should expect to not lie down for that time. This time frame has been adjusted over the years. For a very long time, Botox patients were advised by their physicians to stay upright for as long as four hours. There have been a few reported cases when patients have not followed this advice have had some diffusion of the Botox injection away from the site and that has led to some other issues. Experts at most medical spas recommend that people stay away for at least two to four hours after their treatment.
Be advised that you may get a headache. There are people who develop a headache after they undergo Botox injections. This does not happen to everyone or for every procedure. Just because you did or did not experience this after one Botox treatment does not mean you will have the same experience the next time you have it done. Usually these are very mild and can be helped with an over the counter pain reliever.
Any marks or bumps will fade quickly. After you undergo a Botox procedure, you may notice some redness, marks and/or bumps on your face. These will fade within a few hours. If you have any bruising, that should be mild and easily covered up with some makeup but that should also fade pretty quickly.
Remember, the effect is not immediate. At least 82% of people who receive Botox treatments at medical spas around the country do see a visible result within a week of getting the injections. Other people see improvement within three to five days. Everyone’s experience with the treatments is different so you may see results sooner or a little later but you will see them.
Most of us have a skin care regimen that we stick to. This should include the use a sunscreen, which can help keep our skin looking young and fresh. Botox treatments are great for this. It should be noted that this is a temporary procedure. Talk to the people at the med spa about how often they would suggest you gave it done to keep the results that you like.
